ERIA Signs MoU With King Mongkut Institute of Technology Ladkrabang

Bangkok, 3 March 2024: ERIA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the King Mongkut Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KIMTL) during the KMITL Innovation Expo 2024 which, was held at the university from 1 to 3 March.

At the signing ceremony,, Koji Hachiyama, ERIA Chief Operating Officer, delivered a presentation on the ERIA Digital Innovation and Sustainable Economy Centre (E-DISC), saying the size of ASEAN’s digital economy will dramatically increase in the near future, and it is necessary to consider human resource developments for achieving the digitalisation of society. He added, ERIA was honoured to collaborate with KIMTL to consider research on digital innovation and the sustainable economy, as well as digital human resource development.

Hachiyama and KMITL President Dr Komsan Maleesee signed the MoU.

On the first day of the expo, Dr Wan Seok Chang, ERIA Economist, made a presentation on the Adoption of Big Data Analytics and How It Leads to Innovation. The presentation was comprised of two parts: introduction about ERIA and the role and objectives of E-DISC, and how adoption of big data can increase production innovation.

He briefly introduced the history of ERIA and outlined what research fields it focuses on for ASEAN and East Asia. He also outlined the background of establishing of E-DISC and its role, missions, and goals to support digital transformation in the ASEAN region.

He also spoke of the theoretical evidence of how big data works and how its utilisation is likely to increase production innovation. He provided empirical evidence on how big data utilisation can increase production innovation using a survey of Korean manufacturing enterprises in East Asia.

He concluded that policymakers in the ASEAN region should consider better policy measurements for the digital technology adoption of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises for the breakthrough of innovation and a sustainable economy.
