The Commonwealth Secretariat is partnering with Google for a virtual event to discuss the experiences of women and girls in obtaining the skills to thrive in the digital world.

Coinciding with the international celebration of Girls in ICT day, the webinar will take place on 22 April from 11am to 1.45pm BST.

Key digital technologies

This event will be the third in the Secretariat’s Data, Technology and Digitalisation series that is providing an overview of key digital technologies and the skills required to harness their full potential in the Commonwealth.

The webinar, Digital Inclusivity: Building Skills for Women and Girls, will focus on digital literacy, digital entrepreneurship and digital leadership.

Empowerment of women

Held in conjunction with Women Will, a Grow with Google programme, it will address gender equality, the empowerment of women and the strengthening of partnerships to support Commonwealth member countries.

Targeting both policymakers and the public, the event will feature remarks from the Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland.

Nishma Robb, Google Director of Brand and Reputation Marketing, will deliver a keynote address.

Views from experts

Three panel sessions will highlight the need for governments, civil society and the private sector to increase focus on the building of digital skills for women and girls.

The discussions will include presentations from women who have benefited from Google’s programmes.

The views of experts from EdTech Hub, TradeMark EA and Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation will form part of the interactive panel discussions and participants will have the opportunity to engage through a Q&A session.
