Suva, Fiji – 20 February 2025 – After its establishment in July 2023, the partners of the Pacific E-commerce Alliance (PacifEcom) met to discuss e-commerce activities in the region for 2025 and areas of collaboration.
PacifEcom focuses on promoting and increasing awareness of the Pacific E-commerce Initiative, mobilising resources, and fostering partnerships to ensure greater coordination. Partners to the alliance are the first and proud ambassadors of the Pacific E-commerce Initiative. As of February 2025, the alliance has five partners: the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, the Pacific Tourism Organisation, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
Presenting at the meeting, Andrea Ibba, the Pacific E-commerce Coordinator, highlighted the importance of the alliance as the engine for the implementation of the Pacific Regional E-commerce Strategy and Roadmap (the Strategy).
A key outcome of the meeting was the Engagement Plan 2025, which aims to strengthen coordination, enhance visibility, ensure efficient resource use, and reinforce collaboration. The plan compiles all projects, events, and initiatives that partners will undertake in 2025, ensuring efforts are aligned and resources are used effectively.
Looking ahead, partners were also introduced to the Pacific E-commerce Symposium, planned for 2026. This event will serve as a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, showcase innovations, and discuss emerging trends in Pacific e-commerce. With a mix of high-level discussions, panel sessions, and networking opportunities over a week, the Symposium will contribute to strengthening digital trade development in the region.
Both the Engagement Plan 2025 and the Pacific E-commerce Symposium concept note will be presented at the Pacific E-commerce Development Partners Sub-committee meeting on 13 March 2025 to create awareness and seek support.
Joining the Pacific E-commerce Alliance is voluntary. Agencies implementing the Strategy that are committed to advancing e-commerce in the Pacific are invited to contact the PIFS E-commerce Unit to become partners.
