Our story

eTrade for all was launched in 2016 by 15 visionary partners during the 14th Ministerial Conference of UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Nairobi, Kenya.

The founding partners shared a common vision, recognizing that concerted global efforts and enhanced cooperation are required to achieve an inclusive digital economy that benefits all. Through the establishment of the eTrade for all initiative, its members agreed on the need to work closer together though a holistic approach to find new solutions to close the digital divides, make effective use of scarce resources and to maximize synergies, to enable more inclusive and sustainable digital transformations.

"We welcome the formal unveiling of the eTrade for all initiative at UNCTAD XIV. It provides a new approach to trade development through electronic exchanges by allowing developing countries to more easily navigate the supply of technical assistance for building capacity in e-commerce readiness and for donors to get a clear picture."

eTrade for all was recognized in December 2022 by the UN General Assembly in its resolution A/RES/77/150 as "a new approach to trade development through electronic exchanges by allowing developing countries to more easily navigate the supply of technical assistance for building capacity in ecommerce readiness and by enabling donors to have a clear picture of the programmes that they could fund."
