How the WIPO Academy Supports Women Digital Entrepreneurs in South Asia?

WIPO Academy teamed up with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) for the seventh time to offer a Masterclass on intellectual property (IP) for women digital entrepreneurs in South Asia. The session was organized by UNCTAD from December 2 to 5, 2024 in New Delhi, India.

Previous edition of the masterclasses on IP for women in digital businesses were held for Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, South-East Asia and the Pacific. The masterclass series highlights how IP can be used by entrepreneurs to create a competitive advantage for their start-ups using real-life case studies from their region as a guide to getting started. Ultimately, the knowledge is used to empower women entrepreneurs in digital business while focusing on building sustainable and commercially successful businesses.

Twenty-four women entrepreneurs from five countries across the South Asian Region participated in the masterclass which in addition to the WIPO Academy lesson on turning ideas to assets and understanding IP for digital business, covered other topics such as:

  • Customer-focused innovation: Aligning products with market needs;
