ESCWA
Artificial intelligence, open data, and the maturity of digital government services in Morocco

In Rabat, ESCWA and the Digital Development Agency in Morocco organized two workshops. The first, held on 17 December, highlighted key concepts related to artificial intelligence (AI) and open data, showcasing selected policies from the Arab region and beyond, to representatives from public institutions involved in AI and data projects.

ESCWA emphasized the role of open datasets in empowering startups, researchers, and policymakers in Morocco to develop more transparent, accountable, and development-oriented AI solutions aligned with national development priorities. It also underscored the need to build trustworthy AI systems and to strengthen public–private cooperation to scale AI initiatives.

The second workshop, held on 18 December, focused on assessing the maturity of digital government services in the Kingdom. Representatives of public institutions involved in evaluating digital services covered by the Government Electronic and Mobile Services (GEMS) Maturity Index reviewed the latest results from the 2024 assessment.
