The transition to paperless, low‑carbon and sustainable trade in Asia and the Pacific depends increasingly on trusted, interoperable digital systems that can carry high‑quality product‑level data across borders. Digital Product Information Systems (DPIS), including emerging digital product passports, can embed environmental, social and circularity information directly into the digital identity of a product, enabling regulators, customs, and businesses to comply with fast‑evolving due‑diligence and product‑sustainability requirements while reducing transaction costs and information asymmetries. Building on ongoing efforts under the Digitalization for Circular Economy (D4CE) Initiative, hosted by UNEP, this session will explore the benefits of Digital Product Information systems, highlight its relevance for global trade, and discuss its challenges, and invite participants to give feedback into shaping guidelines for development and implementation of DPIS.

Objective

  • Increase awareness and understanding among stakeholders of the benefits of interoperable Digital Product Information Systems in supporting circular, sustainable trade
  • Promote cooperation among countries to enhance interoperability of Digital Product Information Systems
  • Gather participants’ perspectives and inputs to inform the development of practical guidelines for interoperable Digital Product Information Systems

This event is part of the APTFF x PTW 2026, co-organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
