2nd Inter-American Development Bank Research Conference: 

Digital Technologies as Drivers of Growth and Well-Being in Emerging Economies

We are pleased to announce the 2nd Inter-American Development Bank Research Conference organized by the Research Department of the IDB. This conference will focus on the transformative impacts of digital technologies (e.g., AI, automation, digitalization, machine learning, and related technologies) on economic development. This one-and-a-half-day conference aims to bring together researchers from academia and policy institutions to present cutting-edge research on how digital technologies are reshaping growth and well-being in emerging economies. 

Keynote Speakers: Pete Klenow (Stanford University) and Catherine Tucker (MIT) 

Conference Themes 

We invite submissions addressing themes including but not limited to the following : 

  • The adoption of digital technologies, barriers and productivity growth in emerging economies
  • Labor market transformations in the digital age: job displacement, job creation, and evolving employment conditions
  • Skills development in the digital age
  • Distributional consequences of digital technologies
  • Financial technology and financial inclusion
  • Sectoral opportunities and challenges of digital technologies in Education, Citizen Security, Health, Judicial Systems, and Social Protection
  • Digital technologies governance and regulatory frameworks in emerging markets 

The conference will feature paper presentations and keynote addresses. The format encourages in-depth presentations and substantive discussions. There will also be policy panels designed to more closely connect the research papers to public policy development. 

Submission Guidelines 

  • Paper Submission: Please submit a complete paper by May 22, 2025
  • Selection Notification: Authors of selected papers will be notified by June 15, 2025
  • Final Version Submission: Final versions of accepted papers should be submitted by August 31, 2025

  1. Paper title
  2. Author name(s), affiliation(s), and contact information
  3. Complete paper (PDF format)

Expenses 

Travel and accommodation expenses for presenters will be covered according to the IDB's policies. Details will be provided to authors of accepted papers. 

Working Paper Series 

Authors of accepted papers will have the opportunity to publish their work in the IDB Working Paper Series.
