As a family-owned business in Egypt, sportswear maker Champs Land has achieved impressive success by incorporating digital systems throughout their work. With support from the International Trade Centre (ITC), the company overhauled its production, sales, and payroll systems. That’s led to a $700,000 surge in exports.
Streamlining production
Champs Land took a major leap forward by adopting a digital enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that unlocked new efficiencies. This creates a seamless digital thread from the moment an order is placed to the final delivery.
The platform tracks worker-level productivity, flags critical quality assurance checkpoints, and monitors the progress of each order. This has dramatically reduced manual follow-ups, improved traceability of materials and products, and standardized quality control. The result is a more consistent, reliable output and a far more agile production planning process.
Pivot to e-commerce
The COVID-19 pandemic hobbled production and slowed traditional exports to a trickle. So the company turned to digital sales focused on the Egyptian market by launching its own online store. Local sales sustained the business through the lockdowns and later became a foundation for growth.
With technical support from the GTEX/MENATEX programme at ITC, Champs Land’s exports surged by $700,000 between 2022 and 2023. Today, e-commerce represents around 30% of the company’s production, including online sales of surplus items.
Empowering women through digital finance
The digital transformation extended to the payroll system. The company introduced an electronic payment system, where workers can access their wages through bank cards.
Many workers, especially women, hesitated at first because they hadn’t used electronic finance or payment cards. Working with the GTEX gender coaching service, the company organized awareness sessions in collaboration with the service provider.
This changed the lives of women working at the company by giving them secure and direct control over their wages. That’s made it easier to care for their household finances, prepare for emergencies and save toward long-term goals.
Champs Land has worked with GTEX/MENATEX for years. By tapping into ITC’s broad range of services, the company has improved its business and made life better for its workers, particularly women. Find out more about how they’ve grown their business:
