The WCO held an E-Commerce Workshop for the Customs Administration of Moldova supported by the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme

From 5 to 8 December 2022, within the framework of the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP), the WCO delivered an E-Commerce Workshop for the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova (MCS), which aimed at building capacities of the MCS on relevant WCO tools, including the WCO Immediate Release Guidelines and the E-Commerce Package.

This workshop followed the efforts started in September 2022, when the Light-Touch Intervention (LTI) in the Republic of Moldova was launched, as a response to the necessity to simplify procedures and electronic interaction between the Customs Administration and traders for facilitating the cross-border movement of relief consignments and of e-commerce goods.

During the workshop, as a result of the active participation of the MCS officials, a concept simplified procedure with regards to the import of low-value shipments (i.e., e-commerce goods) was developed, as well as an initial draft of a strategy for the exchange of pre-arrival information for those shipments and a preliminary roadmap for linking MCS’ activities with the WCO Framework of Standards on cross-border e-commerce and other WCO instruments and tools.

This successful workshop will be followed up by further technical assistance focused on relief consignments that will support the development and refining the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for processing humanitarian aid, with the support of the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP).
