The launch of the Guidelines for pre-accession countries for meeting the EU’s digital agriculture requirement will be held virtually on 11 March, at 11:00-11:30 CET. This workshop is organized by ITU and FAO as a side event to the 2024 UNECE Regional Forum for Sustainable Development.

The ITU Office for Europe in collaboration with the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia designed the Guide for pre-accession countries and territories on European Union’s digital agriculture requirements. This launch event is aimed to disseminate the research findings and provide a snapshot of the guidelines for EU pre-accession countries on the way to enter the EU single market and align their agricultural policies to the emerging EU legislations related to digital agriculture, and more specifically the Common Agricultural Policy.

Embracing these guidelines enables pre-accession countries to showcase their commitment to adopting modern, sustainable agricultural practices that adhere to EU standards. By integrating digital technologies responsibly, these countries can contribute to the overall alignment with EU expectations while fostering a responsible and sustainable transformation of the agricultural sector. The guidelines are crafted to ensure that the benefits of technology are maximized while mitigating potential risks and challenges.

The event targets all interested stakeholders at the Europe region level contributing to the digital agriculture, as the Guidelines will provide a framework for farmers, agritech companies, policymakers, and other stakeholders to effectively and responsibly implement digital technologies in agriculture. These guidelines aim to ensure the ethical, sustainable, and secure adoption of digital tools in farming practices.
