Driving the Energy Transition: Connectivity, Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence

  • 13th meeting of Expert Working Group on Energy Connectivity (EWG-EC)

  • 10th meeting of Expert Working Group on Universal Access to Modern Energy Services, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Cleaner Use of Fossil Fuels (EWG-SDG 7)

The two Expert Working Group Meetings will seek expert inputs on the status, development trends and enablers of the energy transition, focusing on the issues of power system connectivity, digitalization and artificial intelligence.

Highlights

[Day 1- 19 March] Regional trends in energy connectivity and digitalization in the power sector

Day 1 will be convened as the 13th meeting of the Expert Working Group on Energy Connectivity (EWG-EC). It will discuss key trends in power connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region, review progress on implementation of the ESCAP Regional Road Map on Power System Connectivity, and the potential for digitalization and technological innovations to enable power system connectivity, with a focus on related opportunities and challenges.

[Day 2- 20 March] The role of digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI) for the energy transition

Day 2 is convened as the 10th Meeting of the Expert Working Group on Universal Access to Modern Energy Services, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Cleaner Use of Fossil Fuels (EWG-SDG 7). The meeting will discuss the role of AI as a transformational technology and its potential to overcome many barriers currently faced in managing energy demand; integrating distributed and variable renewable energy sources; and optimizing the demand side response of EVs and smart end use devices.
