Ports play a crucial role in global trade and national economic development. Recent advancements in digital technology and innovation are transforming ports into more sustainable, safe, and clean hubs. However, these developments have predominantly benefited large ports in developed countries, leaving many small ports across the Asia-Pacific region behind in accessing the advantages of digitalization and disaster response technologies.

To address these gaps, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) has launched a new capacity-building project titled “Bridging the Digitalization and Resilience Gap in Small Ports in the Asia-Pacific Region.” This initiative, supported by the Korea Ports and Harbours Association (KPHA), aims to enhance digital technologies and bolster disaster resilience, particularly in small ports vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

As part of this project, The Transport Division of ESCAP is pleased to announce that a Capacity Building Workshop on port digitalization and the resilience of small ports in the Asia-Pacific region will be held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from 9 to 11 December 2024 in collaboration with KPHA.

This workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of member states in advancing the digitalization of small ports and enhancing disaster resilience of small ports in the face of climate change. It will feature the sharing of key case studies and discussions on future cooperation strategies. The event will take place in a hybrid format, bringing together experts from relevant organizations, as well as national and international specialists in port digitalization and resilience.

Interested participants are kindly invited to register by Monday, 2 December 2024 at following registration link at the you earliest convenience.

The updated workshop programme and the online meeting link will be distributed to registered participants in due time. For further questions and information, please contact Mr. Sooyeob Kim, Transport Division, ESCAP at [email protected].
