Enabling Services Trade through Digital Trade Regulatory Integration: Sharing Experience from Asia-Pacific
Digital technologies are transforming the way services are traded — from finance, logistics, and education to tourism and professional services. Seamless digital trade requires coherent regulatory frameworks that enable trust, interoperability, and data mobility across borders.
To support evidence-based policymaking, ESCAP has developed a series of analytical studies on digital trade regulations and integration. These studies use the ESCAP-ECA-ECLAC Regional Digital Trade Integration Index (RDTII) database to assess regulatory openness, alignment, and progress across the Asia-Pacific region.
This hybrid session will launch a new ESCAP report: Digital Trade Regulatory Review for Asia-Pacific, 2025, which will serve as the basis for an expert panel discussion on bridging digital regulatory gaps to boost services trade across subregions. This session will also emphasize lessons learned for addressing shared challenges and opportunities in connecting regional markets and enabling digitally delivered services, particularly for latecomer economies such as those in Central Asia.
