2025

Dear all,

Welcome to the June edition of our newsletter. This month we unveil a long-awaited feature on the eTrade for all platform: the new Country Profiles, replacing the former eTrade for all indicators. They offer improved access to data across key digital economy policy areas, with full coverage of all UN countries and side-by-side comparisons for up to four countries. Take a look!

UN Trade and Development just released its flagship World Investment Report, focusing on international investment in the digital economy. As global investment patterns shift, UNCTAD warns that reversing the downturn requires smarter capital – long-term, inclusive and aligned with sustainable development. Nowhere is this more urgent than in the digital economy, where gaps in infrastructure, skills and policy risk leaving many countries behind. Discover the report in the dedicated section  below.

Also from UNCTAD, we are also pleased to share the launch of a new dedicated newsletter: Insights, to get to know everything related to trade and development, once per month, in your inbox.

We then go to the International Telecommunication Union, which teamed up with the World Benchmarking Alliance to release the Greening Digital Companies 2025 report. Findings reveal rising energy use but also growing transparency and renewable adoption by tech companies. With COP30 on the horizon, there is a strong call to align digital growth with climate action.

After that, we take you to Bangkok, where ESCAP hosted its Paperless Trade Week. Digital trade holds great promise, particularly in the Asia and Pacific region, but more efforts are needed to cut costs, boost transparency, and make global supply chains more inclusive and resilient. We’ve compiled a selection of events organized by our eTrade for all partners to have a better overview of the topics under discussion.

June also marked Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Day. As the backbone of several economies, they are on the front row of major disruptions. This year the focus was on innovation and digital tools were also present in the discussions. More in the dedicated session.

As always, we close with the most relevant updates on Global Policy Processes. Check them out, including some highlights on the Internet Governance Forum, which just closed its doors. And get ready for major milestones such as the next WSIS+20 High-Level Forum, starting here in Geneva on 7 July.

We hope you enjoy the read and we look forward to welcoming you back for our Summer edition at the end of August.
