Working group on measuring e-commerce and the digital economy, 6th meeting

The working group aims to advance cooperation on measuring electronic commerce (e- commerce) and the digital economy and to enhance the availability, quality, comparability, usability and relevance of statistics concerning e-commerce and the digital economy, with a view to supporting evidence-based policymaking, particularly in developing countries.

In May 2025, the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on E-commerce and the Digital Economy at its 8th session, agreed on the following topics for the 6th meeting of the working group:

1. Progress in measuring e-commerce and the digital economy by relevant international organizations.
2. Measuring the value of e-commerce.
3. Updating the core indicators on information and communications technology use by businesses and on the information and communications technology sector.
4. Developing capacities in measuring e-commerce and the digital economy.

Participation

This meeting is open to all member States of UNCTAD.

Member State representatives wishing to attend the meeting should have expertise in producing relevant official statistics (for example from national statistical offices or government ministries).

International organizations involved in measuring e-commerce and the digital economy; national, regional and international networks researching the digital economy; and specialists from civil society, the private sector and academia, as appropriate, may also participate, and are requested to inform the secretariat of the names of their representatives by 25 October 2025.

Registration

Online registration is mandatory for all those wishing to attend the meeting and is required in order to be included in the list of participants.

Logistics 

The meeting will be held with physical participation in room XVI of the Palais des Nations. Those who cannot attend the meeting in person will be able to listen to the live audio stream in the six official languages of the United Nations. The link to listen live will be sent to registered participants, at the email address used for registration, one day in advance of the start of the meeting.
