This month, we will start by sharing the newly released report by the OECD, to which several eTrade for all partners contributed, and which offers a new definition for the digital economy. As we are also fully engaged with eTrade for all in a series of global and regional studies about the impact of COVID-19 in e-commerce and digital trade, to be released soon (stay tuned!), we realize how important it is to offer common baselines to facilitate the understanding of underlying concepts.
October was also busy with 2 major events organized by UNCTAD: the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on E-Commerce and the Digital Economy, and the 8th UN Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection.
- The first event, whose 4th edition was organized in a hybrid format and was attended by over 370 participants from 86 countries, offered a three-day meeting around digital platforms and value creation in developing countries.
- The second event, which is organized every five years, offered in this edition a very prominent focus on the protection of digital consumers.
