Virtual Peering Series – Central Asia #4: Where the Traffic Flows

Central Asia has some of the highest connectivity costs in the world, yet few Internet exchange points (IXPs) exist to enable traffic to be exchanged locally between Internet service providers (ISPs) and which can attract major content providers to serve their customers.

The fourth and final session of the Virtual Peering Series – Central Asia will take place on 7 December 2021 at 09.00-10.30 UTC (14.00-15.30 in Western Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, and 15.00-16.30 in Eastern Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan).

This event, organized by the Internet Society, RIPE NCC, and Euro-IX, will focus on how Internet traffic flows in Central Asia, who the main network operators and content providers are, and how much local or potentially local traffic is traversing international links. It will also consider the regulatory situation in the region and what the legal and licensing requirements are for potential IXPs.

The previous events in the series showed the importance of IXPs and how to establish them. This event will show why IXPs must be established and what is still needed to encourage their development. A panel of experts will help answer these questions.

The language of the event will be Russian, with simultaneous interpretation provided in English.
