Digitalization is quickly transforming the global economy. Indeed, the rapid advancement of new technology encouraged the formation of a borderless world, but this progress also gave rise to new and highly complex digital issues. Today, economies face issues on handling cross-border data flows, enforcing intellectual property rights, and protecting consumer welfare amid online transactions, among others. These issues are not only domestic concerns but also regional as well, which is why cooperation between and among economies is important. The digital economy becomes even more relevant in a post-COVID-19 world since the pandemic forced economies to shift towards digital formats and transactions, thereby creating a new paradigm for the international community.

Given these developments, this webinar probes into the Philippines’ readiness and current progress towards digital integration with the Asia-Pacific by focusing on two pressing concerns: trade and health. Digitalization has transformed how the world trades, who trades, and what is being traded inasmuch as it has lifted geographical barriers that previously prevented consumers from accessing services, such as healthcare. In this evolving paradigm, it is important to ask just how ready are we for digital integration with our neighbors? What has the Philippines done and has been doing to make this integration a success? What challenges do we, as a nation, need to overcome to pave the road to regional digital integration?
