Capacity Building Workshop – Navigating Digital Trade Law Landscape

An enabling legal environment is essential for successfully implementing digital trade. This is evidenced by the increasingly detailed provisions contained in FTAs and RTAs, which refer to the adoption of implementing texts. A similar approach has been taken in the CPTA. However, it may be challenging to navigate through these provisions, especially for those countries with limited in-house legal expertise.

The workshop will discuss how to support digital trade law reform at the outset of cross-border trade digitalization. Examples will be provided of regional and national cases and of their underlying policy options. Illustrations will be given of how ESCAP and UNCITRAL may assist countries in setting up an efficient and effective legal environment.

This workshop is organized back-to-back with the First session of the Standing Committee of the Framework Agreement on Facilitation of Cross-border Paperless Trade in Asia and the Pacific | ESCAP (unescap.org)
