The ESCAP secretariat promotes the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway initiative (APIS) as a region-wide multistakeholder regional cooperation platform. The APIS platform aims to bridge the digital divide and accelerate digital transformation by promoting digital connectivity, digital technology and digital data use in the Asia-Pacific region. The APIS platform is operationalised through the APIS Action Plan 2022-2026 which consists of three pillars: (1) Working Group 1 – Connectivity for all; (2) Working Group 2 – Digital technologies and applications, and (3) Working Group 3 – Digital data.

The scope of work of Working Group 2 includes promotion of multistakeholder cooperation on new and emerging technologies, digital polices on digitalisation and transformation, and digital applications. This Virtual Workshop on “Facilitating policymakers’ access to data for evidence-based policy” will focus on illustrating how policymakers can use various online digital platforms as critical data and information sources for deliberate policy making. It will feature experts and practitioners in the field of digital technologies, including online platforms, who will deliver presentations on innovative Digital Platform solutions and projects.
