Meet Helianti
Helianti is a strong believer that life is worth living only when we serve for humanity. Her passion for adventurous travelling, interaction with people of all walks of life, food gardening and cooking led her to food establishments that connects people with nature and culture. Former entertainment lawyer and consultant with an international career, Helianti Hilman has become the lead promoter of Indonesia’s food biodiversity heritage.
Vision and mission
Inspired by Indonesia’s wealth on food biodiversity and indigenous knowledge on sustainable food system, in 2008, Helianti founded PT. Kampung Kearifan Indonesia, also known as Javara. Javara is a value-driven food company that turns Indonesia’s food biodiversity heritage into organic artisanal gourmet food products that serve national and global markets. Believing in the power of entrepreneurship in creating inclusive business opportunities in rural and remote Indonesia, she founded Sekolah Seniman Pangan, an action-based food entrepreneurship school for rural youth. Helianti has significantly contributed to celebrate, revive and mainstream the indigenous wisdom and food culture heritage by making them relevant to the market, whilst creating inclusive businesses. Her work has been impacting tens-of-thousands farmers and artisans across Indonesia as well as inspiring more young people around the world to follow her steps.
Growing recognition
In 2013, she was awarded EY Indonesia Social Entrepreneur of the Year and in 2014 named by Forbes Indonesia among The Inspiring Women Honor Roll. In 2015 she was selected among Schwab Social Entrepreneurs of the Year and in 2016, Top 10 Asia identified her as one of Indonesia’s Top Social Entrepreneurs. She is globally recognized as an expert and resource person in the area of indigenous food system, commercialization of food biodiversity and social entrepreneurship. Helianti also has a passion for photography, which become beneficial for her work in capturing the visual stories behind the products.
